Lecturer - Professor Tim Watson PhD, BSc, MCSP, DipTP
Tim trained as a physiotherapist at the West Middlesex Hospital School of Physiotherapy, qualifying in the late 70's. After spending a few years in the NHS (mainly out-patients and orthopaedics / rheumatology), he returned to the education sector to teach on various physiotherapy programmes. He undertook a degree in Biomedical Sciences followed by a PhD from the Biomedical Engineering Department at the University of Surrey (1994). His PhD thesis was 'The Bioelectric Correlates of Musculoskeletal Injury and Repair'.
He is currently Professor of Physiotherapy at the University of Hertfordshire and teaches electrotherapy and tissue healing on the undergraduate and post graduate physiotherapy programmes at Hertfordshire and many other universities in the UK.
He remains actively involved in research with numerous PhD programmes running alongside his own research. Recent and current studies include an investigation of the physiological effects of pulsed short-wave therapy, the effects of microcurrent as a therapy for soft tissue lesions, and the transmissivity of ultrasound through different coupling media and dressings.
He has edited a general electrotherapy textbook, has contributed to several others and has published widely in peer reviewed journals. He lectures and presents at conferences worldwide.
