The cervical spine consists of seven vertebrae, labelled C1-C7, beginning at the base of the skull (shown in a full sized Cervical Spine model). They are smaller than other spinal vertebrae and can be distinguished by a foramen (hole) in each transverse process, which the vertebral artery passes through.1 The cervical vertebrae function is to contain and protect the spinal cord, support the skull and enable head movement, such as rotation, flexion and extension. The cervical spine is supported by ligaments, tendons and muscles to prevent excessive movement, help provide spinal balance and enable functional movement.
Minor neck injuries can be treated with lightweight, shaped foam collars, such as the Vulkan Medicollar.
Wheat filled hot/cold packs provide a natural solution to relieving pain from rheumatism, arthritis, and muscular aches and pains in the cervical region.
The WHEATEEZE neck pack can be stored in the freezer and applied directly to any area of injury to help reduce pain and swelling, without risk of ice burn, thereby helping to accelerate the healing process. It can also be warmed safely in a microwave to assist with reducing pain and muscle spasm, and therefore can help accelerate the return to normal activity. The packs conform easily to the area of the body they are applied to.
